Routines and Horses, Dogs, Cats and Me

I hate routines yet routines keep me sort of sane. I love not sticking to them and making mundane life a little more exiting. My animals fare well with a bit of a routine, they seem to stick to it. Read more

Confusion – half halt

Zamboucca, bred by my friend, now owned by former UK National dressage champion Spencer Wilton

I know what a half halt is. I read this nice description somewhere calling it a ‘call to attention’. We up the level of collection, keeping the balance, the rhythm and the stride. Or we let the horse know that we are about the set in an exercise. I don’t think it is necessarily half way to a halt, so it is a silly term. Following different blogs and discussion threads on LinkedIn, there is a difference in what we think is normal behavior. Do I dare to discuss this? Barely, but I think everybody is entitled to their own opinion and believe system. Read more

Stressful Situations – the Effect on Horses’ Working Memory

Stress Free Zone

If your horse already has a basic fearful nature, it will effect him more. Read more

Leg Yields

Leg Yields with Volker Brommann

Leg yields, I love them. I think they are a great way to obtain suppleness and to check responsiveness of your horse. Yet there are those who do not like them and I would say to each his own.
