What if half the boarding stables were taken over by people know how to survive through excellence in the service industry? Who would hire people with horse knowledge but manage their barn based on service. How empty would the other half be? This has no reference to my current stable, I enjoy myself there, but my post is based on shared stories from others and my past experiences. Having tired legs is something that nearly all horses suffer from as they age. There are certain things that owners can do to limit the everyday wear and tear on their legs and give them that extra bit of a boost during their senior years. It doesn’t matter whether your horse is a show animal or a working one – caring for their joints is extremely important and there are a few things that you can do to make their life a little bit more pleasant.
Falling is one of those things I am unfortunately all to familiar with. Even last year I fell of my old guy, then 19, with an incredible thump on the floor. Really big dead weight thump. I have lost the art to fall. It probably comes with age that people loose their agile falling skills.
I ran across this Dutch article in horse.nl which covers the topic of a horse’s brain. Always interesting. It starts off mentioning that a horse has a big head, but only a tiny brain. If you were to place them next to a human brain, it would be more noticeable how small they actually are. Then it specifically compares it to a female brain that weighs about 1245 gram and a horse’s brain around 650 grams. Read more
