Last week I wrote about Charlie needing glasses and I said I had more to share on my old guy Charles. Having already mentioned that he sees leprechauns where I see nothing, which could be a lack of imagination on my part, I want to point out today that he is more likely to see them when we first enter the arena, or after we start picking up speed and asking for concentration. Plus these leprechauns are cheeky little critters; they can disappear and pop back into sight continuously. Read more

Is there a horse optician? Charlie needs glasses; he has actually needed them since the day we met. It may well have been a birth defect. Yet as he ages, his eyesight deteriorates and he could do with some corrective glasses. Don’t think I am joking, I am deadly serious here. Read more

Let me introduce my guys. They are very important to me and the reason I work hard (so I can afford them.) They often test my limits and will make sure I have to get out of my comfort zone. They test my non-verbal communication skills, what is my body language saying to them. But also what are they ‘saying’ to me, can I interpret how they are feeling; or when they are not feeling well, what is ailing them. They test my riding capabilities, my balance and whether my body is actually doing what my head wants it to do. They test my problem solving capabilities, whether it concerns riding, health or horse management in general. Read more
